ENFINGER TOP-5 CONTENDER HAS DISAPPOINTING FINISH

Enfinger finishes 35th in Racing for Wildlife 200 at MIS

BROOKLYN, M.I. (June 12, 2010) - After being out of his ARCA Racing Series BeasleyAllen.com/Roush-Yates Performance Products Ford Fusion for more than a month, Grant Enfinger was ready to pound the pavement at Michigan International Speedway on June 11 for the Racing for Wildlife 200. Always strong at intermediate tracks, the 25-year old expected his career debut run at Michigan, a 2-mile track, to be a successful one.

The race at Michigan International Speedway marked the fourth start for Enfinger in the 2010 season out of the eight events thus far in the ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX.

Enfinger practiced at the track located within the Irish Hills for a total of 38 laps with a fastest time of 39.913 (180.392 mph) on Thursday, June 10. During practice, the No. 09 Ford improved with each lap during the five practice runs. The car handled better and the speeds improved as Enfinger remained on the track.

“I'm happy with our practice runs,” Enfinger said. “The BeasleyAllen.com/Roush-Yates Performance Products Ford Fusion felt great. The times in our last practice fell a bit, but into a good run, we'll be alright. We may not qualify where we'd like to be, but the car in race trim is very drivable and gets better as the tires wear. A good 30 or so laps into the race and we should have one of the fastest cars out there.”

On Thursday, Enfinger qualified 17th with a fastest time of 39.807 (180.873 mph).

In the very beginning of the race, Enfinger's Ford machine was strong. After starting 17th, he maneuvered to the front of the pack by lap 28 and was in 5th. Due to battery issues at lap 53, the 09 parked for the day.

“The car was great today,” Enfinger said. “I think we did everything right. Again, I can't think of anything we'd do differently as far as the race goes. Right in the beginning, the car was free like I had expected, but it wasn't a slow free and I was able to drive it. Running it fairly conservatively, we were able to march up to 5th by the time the pit stop came. Then, right after the pit stop, the car's battery died. That's my department at the shop, though, and I was only running one battery today. We came in and changed it, went four laps down, and went back out with everything fine. It just wasn't worth staying out there risking anything like a wreck or blowing a tire already 4 laps down. We decided to park it for the day.”

Michigan local, crew chief, Howard Bixman was disappointed with the finish, but proud of GER's performance in the laps he ran.

“It's unfortunate,” Bixman said. “We had a battery problem. Grant was moving up in the field fast, but that's just part of the racing deal. I want to thank Beasley-Allen and Roush-Yates Performance Products for all of their help, along with Stanley Industries. We look forward to being back on the track at Iowa in July.”

The race at Michigan is the biggest of the season aside from Talladega for the Alabama native. Planted within the home state of Ford, Michigan International Speedway has a strong history with Fords. GER expected an excellent run in Friday's race with a Ford holding a Roush-Yates engine.

Overall, Enfinger and the GER team were very pleased with the Ford Fusion's performance at Michigan. They hope to bring the same speed to Iowa Speedway in the next ARCA Racing Series event.

“I look forward to going to Iowa since I've never raced there before,” Enfinger said. “It should be another good track for us. With a good four weeks to mend our wounds, the GER team expects to run strong in the upcoming race.”

The Prairie Meadows 200 at Iowa Speedway will be televised on SPEED at 9:00 PM ET with additional race coverage including live timing and scoring and radio broadcast through the ARCA Racing Network at arcaracing.com.
