Newcomer Benny Gordon, In Grant Enfinger's No. 09 Car, Impressive in Series Debut at Daytona

(TOLEDO, Ohio - February 23, 2011 from arcaracing.com) - Each season, the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards introduces a new cast of characters, giving the tour a continual stream of fresh flavor. And this year's Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 from Daytona International Speedway was no exception.
One of those new players is DuBois, Pa.'s Benny Gordon who, in his career first ARCA Racing Series start, drove Grant Enfinger's No. 09 VSI-sponsored Ford to an impressive seventh place finish. Enfinger, who finished a close ninth in the No. 36 JAM car, rented his primary 09 car to Gordon to help pay the bills, and it paid off for both.

No matter the driver, the finish arguably demonstrated that the Grant Enfinger Racing (GER) team is a force to be reckoned with.

"Overall, we had a great day," said Gordon. "The car was real good; we just couldn't get our group together quick enough to make a dent with the lead pack. I want to thank Howard (Bixman, crew chief), Grant (Enfinger, car owner) and everyone with the GER team for the opportunity."

After qualifying 20th, Gordon, a former USAR Pro Cup Series champion, quickly began inching his way up through the running order. He also dodged the multi-car wreck in turn three that brought out the second caution flag. And it was during this caution period that Gordon took advantage of the time to make his required pit stop. Crew chief Bixman called for fuel only, getting Gordon back out inside the top-20.

In the closing laps, Gordon drafted with his car owner Enfinger and fellow Ford driver Chad McCumbee to get positioned up inside the top-10.
Veteran crew chief Bixman was impressed with Gordon's performance.

"I was very impressed with Benny; he did a great job all week long," Bixman said. "We gave up a little in qualifying to be a good in the draft. We were a little nervous starting from 20th, but Benny was able to quickly position himself in the right place and move up. I wish we would have had five more laps, but we'll take seventh and move onto to Talladega."

Car owner Enfinger was also pleased with the results.

"Benny (Gordon) showed a lot of patience and Howard (Bixman, crew chief) did a great job like he always does; he's got the superspeedway tracks covered. The car looked strong and I believe Benny learned a lot not only about the draft but ARCA racing in general. I'm happy."

The ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards will take nearly an eight week pause before action resumes at Talladega Superspeedway on Friday, April 15th, 2011 live on SPEED.
